2023 Performance

In 2023, we were using 9% less water per metric tonne of product in our manufacturing processes compared to the 2014 baseline year. Over the course of the year, we introduced more initiatives to reduce water consumption and improve the quality of wastewater discharge.

Castiglione, Italy

By working in partnership with their water treatment supplier, the site have been able to reduce the cooling towers blowdown frequency through the use of different treatment chemicals. This will save 22,585 m3 of water per year.

Improvements were made to improve the efficiency of the onsite bio-treatment plant. The build-up of foam in the lagoons reduced the breakdown of CO2.  A series of water jets were installed to spray over lagoon to reduce the foam. Initially fed with fresh well water the site were able instead to recover clean water flowing from the bio station itself and use it to feed the spray system. In total this will save 18,000 m3 of water per year.

Changes made to the water treatment chemicals used in the sites cooling water system helped to improve the efficiency of the process.  The site also switched from a continuous water purging system to a reactive monitoring system.  In 2023, this saved 67m3 of water.

St Mihiel, France

The site made level control improvements to their cooling tower to prevent the overflow of water, saving 36 m3 of water per year.
