In 2025, the number Image attachmentImage attachment

In 2025, the number of UK students entering for Chemistry GCSE dropped by 6%*. For an industry that relies on innovation and scientific expertise, this trend highlights an important challenge for our industry.

At Innospec, we believe chemistry isn’t just about formulas, it is about shaping the future. As a specialty chemical company, we recognise our responsibility to spark curiosity and encourage young people to explore careers in STEM. Maintaining a strong pipeline of talent is essential to delivering innovative chemical solutions for our customers.

That is why we are focused on supporting future talent. One way we do this is by opening our doors to local schools, giving students a chance to see how chemistry comes to life beyond the classroom.

Recently, our Ellesmere Port UK site welcomed pupils from Helsby High School for an immersive visit day. From creating their own shampoo formulations to practicing fire safety and touring our facilities, these students experienced the real-world impact of science.

Feedback from one of the Helsby High teachers highlights the impact of the trip:
ā€œThank you for your generosity in hosting us and providing such a memorable learning experience. Your team’s efforts have undoubtedly left a lasting impression on our students and encouraged them to consider future careers in science and industry.ā€

Even more inspiring, many students told us the visit encouraged them to choose separate science GCSEs, a decision that could shape their future careers.

We are proud to play a role in igniting passion for chemistry and showing how science drives progress. Because inspiring future talent is key to driving innovation and sustainable growth.

Are you involved in inspiring future STEM talent? Share your ideas and experiences in the comments, we would love to learn from you.

Palm-based derivativ

Palm-based derivatives are widely used as versatile ingredients in specialty chemicals due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Ensuring they are sustainably sourced is essential to addressing global concerns around deforestation, biodiversity loss, and human rights.

The Sustainable Palm Index (SPI) provides a transparent benchmark for progress, enabling suppliers like us demonstrate leadership and accountability. We are proud to share our strong performance in the 2025 assessment. Based on our 2024 palm volumes, we achieved a score of 79.7/100, earning Category A supplier status and ranking Innospec in the top 10% of all participating suppliers.

The achievement reflects our commitment to responsible sourcing and continuous improvement across the palm derivatives supply chain to reduce environmental impact and promote ethical practices.
